Obituary of Byron M. Sager

Byron M. Sager, 95, of Heritage Village Retirement Campus, formerly of 138 W. Summit Avenue, Lakewood, died Tuesday December 27, 2016, in his home. He was born December 7, 1921, in Bradenton, FL, a son of the late Lloyd and Tillie Swanson Sager. After graduating from Lakewood High School, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Hawaii and later served on the Great Lakes on an Ice Cutter. After his discharge, he worked at a local furniture factory in Jamestown painting Oriental Designs on furniture. He then was employed by Larson Advertising for 34 years as a commercial artist retiring in 1986. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Lakewood/Busti Golden Agers and AARP. He enjoyed reading, painting, drawing, talking with people and spending time on Chautauqua Lake, but more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving is a daughter Marsha (Paul) Donner of Busti; four grandchildren Tammy (Tom) Woodruff of Lakewood, Tiffany (James) Barton of Jamestown, Tasha (Patrick) Ecklund of Hampstead, NC and Steven Donner of Rochester, NY and ten great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rose Wheeler Sager, whom he married November 7, 1954 and who died August 10, 2006; two brothers William and Walter Sager and a sister Lloydine Hotchkiss. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Keith McEntire will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
