Obituary of Roger D. Ball

Roger D. Ball, 87, formerly of the Frewsburg Rest Home, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the skilled nursing section of the Lutheran Retirement Home. He was born in the Town of Sheridan on October 17, 1929, a son of the late Howard and Alice Ball of Forestville, NY. Roger served his country as a member of the United Sates Air Force from 1951 to 1955, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. A resident of Forestville for a large portion of his life, Roger was employed for 36 years by the former Great Lakes Color Printing Company of Dunkirk, retiring in 1990. He was a past member of the Forestville Volunteer Fire Department and had also coached the "Twins" Forestville Little League team in the late 1960's. Following their retirement, Roger and his late wife, Alberta, moved to Hendersonville, NC, where they thoroughly enjoyed 16 years of living life to the fullest. During these years, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada with the Fellowship Tours Company of Johnson City, Tenn. In addition to his wife, the former Alberta Richter who died in 2007, Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ball. He is survived by a brother, David (Joyce) Ball of Forestville; a son, Donald (Millie) Ball of Jamestown; two daughters: Betsy Silagyi of Newberg, OR and Sandra Nobles of Forestville; as well as four grandsons, two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Per Mr. Ball's request, visitation will not be observed. A private family graveside service will be held in the Forestville Cemetery at a future date. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff members of WCA Hospital, the Frewsburg Rest Home, Angel Home Care, the Lutheran Home and Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care for the care they all provided Roger.
