Obituary of Bennie A. Cardinale

Bennie A. Cardinale, 97, of 124 Aldren Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua at WCA. A lifelong area resident, he was born November 30, 1919 in Falconer, NY, a son of the late Peter and Benedetta Spadaro Cardinale. Bennie was a 1938 graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from December 3, 1942 to November 14, 1945 working as a T/4 operator in the 501st Armored Field Artillery Battalion. During his tour of duty he had received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal. Before his retirement he was employed by the Marlin Rockwell Corporation as a machinist for 35 years. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church and a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, and the South Hills Country Club. Bennie was an avid golfer and bowler and consistently carried a 185 average in the classic bowling league. He was also an accomplished fast pitch softball pitcher playing with the MRC Team in the old Jamestown Industrial League. He loved to attend his U.S. Army reunions and would travel all over the country keeping in touch with his "ole Army buddies". He loved to dance and he and his wife Rose were known as one of the smoothest dance couples around. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Rose M. Nalbone Cardinale whom he married October 4, 1948, two sons, Peter F. (Carol) Cardinale of Lakewood, NY, Frederick P. (Sterling) Cardinale of Tampa, FL, three grandchildren, Paul (Suzan) Cardinale of Frewsburg, NY, Vanessa (Brian) Truskey of Ashburn, VA, Tom Cardinale of Tampa, FL, two great grandchildren, John Truskey, Oliver Truskey, three step-great grandchildren, Catherine Sadowski, Ben Leichner, Caleb Leichner and a sister, Fannie Parasiliti of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Lena Lindquist. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2017, in Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Falconer, NY. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017, in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
