Obituary of Anthony M. Stefanelli

Anthony M. Stefanelli, Sr., 87, formerly of Falconer Street, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, in the Lutheran Retirement Home. A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born October 29, 1929, a son of the late Salvatore and Rose Russo Stefanelli. He served in the US Navy from 1950-54 during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the City of Jamestown as a firefighter for 23 years. He earlier had worked for the Jamestown Board of Education and as a supervisor at National Worsted Mills where he met his wife. He was a communicant of St. John's Catholic Church and a member and past president of the Falconer Rod and Gun Club. He was an active member of the firefighter's Morton Club Beneficiary Association late into his retirement years. He loved fishing, especially on Chautauqua Lake, and was an active member of the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association. He was a founding member of the Eastside Fellowship Club on Woodlawn Avenue. He was an avid follower of JHS football. Tony played semi-professional football with the Jamestown Dukes and coached midget football with his brother. As a lifelong outdoorsman, Tony was known for his love of fishing, hunting, and his bountiful garden. Surviving is his wife Marilyn Stefanelli, whom he married September 23, 1961; four children Lisa (Richard) Erickson of Falconer, Sharon Lounsbury of Burgaw, NC, Mary Hutley of Jamestown and Anthony (Pamela) Stefanelli, Jr., of Loudenville, NY; nine grandchildren Christopher Stefanelli, Benjamin Lounsbury, Colton, Kayleigh and Spencer Erickson, Mckayla and Brittany Hutley, Anthony Stefanelli III and Allison Stefanelli; a brother Frank Stefanelli of Jamestown and three sisters Matilda Martinelli and Marianne Holcomb both of Jamestown and Rosemary Bova of Westfield. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Elizabeth DeNitto and Virginia Rizzo. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Samuel Pellerito will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
