Obituary of Joan R. Glenn
Joan R. Glenn, 74, of Bemus Point, formerly of Allison Park, Pa., passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 in WCA Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was the wife of David E. Glenn, Jr., whom she married May 31, 1969 in the East Union Presbyterian Church in Cheswick, Pa.
Joan was born January 4, 1943 in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of the late Ralph E. and E. Dorothy Erickson Rasmussen. She was a 1961 graduate of Shaler High School in Glenshaw, Pa. and received her Bachelor's Degree from Geneva College in 1966. She was then employed for several years by the Union National Bank of Pittsburgh.
A full time area resident since 2012, Joan was a member of the Ingjald Lodge #65, Independent Order of Vikings and enjoyed dinners at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and War Vets Recreation. Joan also enjoyed boat rides and sunsets on the lake, shopping in Bemus Point, the lake cottage and friends, her morning coffee and newspaper, cooking, friends in Orange Lake and Ocala, Florida, and especially her cat, Lucy. Joan was an avid animal lover! Joan loved shopping in Flatwoods and Newell, WV for Fiestaware, which she collected and shared with friends. Joan had a great sense of humor and zest for life.
In addition to her husband, David, Joan is survived by a son, Zachary J. Glenn of Pittsburgh; and niece, Karen Rasmussen and nephew, Eric (Gwenda) Rasmussen, both of Falls Church, VA.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1990; father in 1993; and a brother, Col. Kenneth H. Rasmussen, USAF Ret., who died in 2011.
A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21 in the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery in Allison Park, Pa.
A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the family home at 3569 Colburn Drive, Bemus Point, NY 14712 .
