Obituary of Timothy J. Benish

Timothy J. Benish, 66, of Clark St. Lakewood, passed away peacefully at home Friday February 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 2, 1950 in Jamestown, the son of the late Oliver J. and Roberta Swisshelm Benish. After high school at Southwestern, Timothy served in the US Navy from 1969-1973. He was employed by Cummins Engine for 24 years and later by the Olean YMCA, and LSS. Prior to his illness Tim was an avid golfer. He played many courses in the eastern US. He always considered Myrtle Beach his second home where he spent numerous vacations and many years enjoying the area and spending time with his family. Those are his fondest memories. He was also a high performance car enthusiast and owned many over the years. Surviving are his wife, Sally J Benish, whom he married on November 26, 1976, in Lakewood; a son Kyle (AlisonNeal) Benish of Ellicottville/Bonita Springs, Fl., two biological sons:, two sisters, Sandra (Cliff) Sweet of Lexington, Ky and Toni (Tom) Campbell of West Ellicott; two brothers, Richard Benish of West Ellicott and Michael Benish of Jamestown; nieces Courtney Campbell Reardon of Panama, Kellie Benish of Bradenton, Fl., Megan Benish of St. Petersburg, Fl., and Deborah Jones of Lexington, Ky. ;one nephew, Gregory Sweet of Lexington, Ky. andgreat nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. The Benish family would like to thank Dr. Walter and staff of WNY Urology and Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care for the excellent care Timothy received during the last months of his illness. We also want to send heartfelt thanks to the Lakewood Fire Department for their tireless dedication and service. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday February 21, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Phelps will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. . Online condolences may be shared at www.lindfuneralhome.com. .
