Obituary of Roy H Anderson
Roy H. Anderson, 96, of 22 Stoneman Avenue, Lakewood, died Saturday March 4, 2017, in Ashville.
A lifelong area resident, he was born May 8, 1920, in Jamestown, the son of the late Henning and Ethel Lawson Anderson.
He was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School.
A WII veteran of the US Army, he served from 1942-45 in the Northern Solomons and was awarded a Bronze Star.
Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed by Crescent Tool Company as a foreman.
He was a member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church where he had served as head usher, trustee and youth advisor for many years. He was a former member of Lakewood Baptist Church serving as a deacon.
In his younger years he was an avid baseball and softball player on several teams.
The family wishes to thank Roy's very special caregivers Mary and Dan Prince, Ashley and Eon Burch, Amber Fisher, John Johnson and Paula Fields and also the staff of the Veteran's Administration Jamestown Office.
Surviving are two sons Lee Anderson of Lakewood and Neil (Bonnie) Anderson of Ashville; three grandchildren Jessica Anderson of North Tonawanda, CW5 Aaron (Kimberly) Anderson serving with the US Army in Arizona and Gregory (Heidy) Anderson of West Ellicott; seven great grandchildren Katerina, August, Owen, Baker, Willa, Samantha and Lily Anderson; a sister Audrey Anderson of Lakewood and two dogs Ginger "Whitey" and Izzy.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife Delores "Dee" Almgren Anderson, whom he married July 26, 1943 and who died April 21, 2007.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Carolyn Stow will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
