Obituary of Mary S. Kooman

Mary S. Kooman, 98, formerly of 372 S. Main St., Jamestown, Bergquist Memorial Assisted Living of Heritage Ministries, and the Lutheran Home, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at The Cottages at Garden Grove in Cicero, NY. She had resided in the Syracuse area since 2013. She was the widow of Hubert C. Kooman, whom she married August 30, 1941 and who died January 1, 2005. Mary was born September 28, 1918 in Sugar Grove, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Thorpe Swanson. She was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School and Jamestown Business College. For many years she was employed as church secretary by the former Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church where she was also a member, Sunday school teacher and active in United Methodist Women. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sharon K. View of Syracuse, NY; five grandchildren: Sara (Paul) Varga, Sean (Lora) View, Kevin (Karen) Kooman, Kate Miller and Keith (Gwenne) Kooman; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Hubert, she was preceded in death by a son, Clinton L. Kooman who died May 29, 2012; two sisters, Carribelle Swanson and Ida Peterson; and two brothers, Ralph and Charles Swanson. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11th in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Gordon Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday. Memorials may be made to Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 S.
