Obituary of Gladys M. Forbes

Gladys M. Forbes, 92, formerly of 319 ½ E. Terrace Ave., Lakewood, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of Morris E. Forbes, whom she married January 26, 1947 and who died March 1, 1999. Gladys was born March 11, 1925 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Earl and Reminta Kessey Ewing, and attended Celoron schools. Together with her late husband, she had owned and operated The Bucket in Lakewood. In earlier years, she had been employed by Sterlingworth in Jamestown and Harris Upholstery in Ashville. She attended Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood. Gladys always looked forward to her weekly painting classes at her sister's home. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. Surviving are two daughters: Heather (Charlie) Stormer of Sherman and Effie Moore of Florida; two sons: Keith (Terri) Forbes of Hampton, VA and Morris (Chris) Forbes of Blockville, NY; as well as twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Forbes; four sisters: Marie Stapleton, Erlene Lydell, Betty Trass and Gretta Gross; and a brother, Clare West. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family wishes to express special thanks to the people that made it possible for Gladys to remain at home for as long as she did, Robert and Connie Whitman.
