Obituary of Philomena D. Ippolito

Philomena "Phil" Ippolito, 96, formerly of 349 Delaware Ave. and 196 Clyde Ave., passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing following a lengthy battle with dementia. She was the widow of Andrew V. Ippolito, whom she married in Jamestown on December 23, 1939 and who died April 12, 1973. Phil was born September 20, 1920 in Palermo, Sicily, a daughter of the late Charles and Emanuela Romano D'Angelo, and attended Jamestown schools. In early years, she had been employed by Murphy's, Jamesway and WCA Hospital. She was also a member of the former New Heights United Methodist Church. Phil loved children and was happily involved in the Foster Grandparent Program in Jamestown for nearly 15 years. She also enjoyed playing cards and word search puzzles. Surviving are three daughters: Doris P. (Wally) Carlson of Jamestown, Emily J. (Rich) Ruggerio of Jupiter, FL and Sharon L. Clayton of Portsmouth, VA; a son, Sam C. (Jan) Ippolito of Falconer; eight grandchildren: Andrea Carlson and Lisa (John) Crandall, both of Jamestown, Julie (Mark) Price of McClean, VA, Richard Ruggerio, Jr. of Jupiter, FL, Joy (Josh Davis) Ruggerio of Charlotte, NC, Scott (Jeannie) Koehler of Jersey City, NJ, Kendra (Corey) Newman of Falconer, and John D'Angelo; as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Gloria Martin of Jamestown and Rosalie D'Angelo of O'Fallon, MO; and two brothers, Thomas D'Angelo of Horseheads, NY and Frank (Karen) D'Angelo of Perry, GA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Andrew, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Raffaela D'Angelo; a sister, Marie Pavlock; four brothers, Emanuel, Peter, John and Joseph D'Angelo; and an infant daughter. No funeral service or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
