Obituary of Lois L. VanStee
Lois Lindsey Van Stee, 89 of 106 William Street, formerly of Southwestern Drive, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
She was born August 6th, 1927 in Jamestown New York, daughter of the late Claude and Alice Armstrong Lindsey. She was married for 60 years to her husband Donn C. Van Stee Sr., who passed away in 2007.
Lois was a 1945 graduate of the former Lakewood High School in Lakewood New York.
Lois was a homemaker for many years raising her six children. She had been employed at several local businesses over the years including Bigelows Department Store, Cummins Engine and Van Stee Corporation. She was a long time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and spent many hours volunteering for various church functions. Lois had also been active in Bridge Club, Mothers Club, her neighborhood Home Bureau and as a past president of the Christian Women's Club.
Lois always enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also enjoyed play card games and board games with her family and friends. Her sense of humor, infectious smile and loving heart were wonderful attributes of hers. Lois loved the Lord with all of her heart and we know that she is spending eternity in heaven with Him.
She is survived by her six children: Donn C. (Barbara) Van Stee Jr., of Lakeland Florida, Joel E. (Marie) Van Stee of Plain City Ohio, Jan R. (James) Potter of Ashville New York, Jill L. (David) Richards of Hilliard Ohio, Cynthia A. (Bradley) Barker of Upper Arlington Ohio and Scott A. (Diane) Van Stee of Jamestown New York. Also surviving her are a loving sister, Lyla L. Bowen of Jamestown, with whom she made her home, twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded her in death by her three sisters, Mildred O. Peterson and Opal I. Nash of Hollywood Florida and Audrey T. Derby of Ashville New York.
The family would like to thank all of her special Caregivers and Hospice for their hours of comfort and care. Lois appreciated each and every one of them and their unique way of caring for her.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, in the Hillcrest Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff Johnson and Pastor Mark Hinman will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
