Obituary of Phyllis E Camarata
Phyllis E. Camarata, 87, of 314 Maplecrest Ave., Lakewood, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua WCA.
She was born on March 30, 1930 in Cambridge Springs, PA, a daughter of the late LeRoy A. and M. Margurite Pierce Hillyer.
Her early education was in Union City and Corry, PA, and graduated from Panama Central School.
Phyllis moved to California in the early 1950's. There she was employed for 20 years by the Ideal Roller and Manufacturing Co., at first briefly as a factory employee and later as an office assistant to the plant superintendent, retiring in 1972 and returning to Lakewood in 1980.
She enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, working jig-saw and crossword puzzles. She loved to travel with her husband Joe and visited many places in the U.S. and loved her cat "Snowball".
Phyllis is survived by a step-daughter Cynthia A. Young of Jamestown; a step-daughter- in- law Betty Camarata of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Lori (Matthew) Stearns of Lakewood, Joseph R. (Krista) Camarata and Aaron (Latasia) Young, both of Jamestown, Debra (Adam) Dowd of Powhatan, VA; seven great-grandchildren: Logan Stearns of Lakewood, Matthew Dowd serving in the U.S. Navy in Japan, Samuel Dowd serving in the U.S. Navy in CA, Zachery Dowd of Powhatan, VA, Zoe and Lily Camarata and Cameron Young, all of Jamestown; a sister: L. Galean Stokes of Spiro, OK; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph W. Camarata, whom she married Dec. 30, 1956 in Long Beach, CA. and who passed away August 21, 2014; a step-son Joseph R. Camarata, who passed away Feb. 22, 2017; and a great-grandson Alex A. Dowd.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
