Obituary of Marilyn Jean Jones
Marilyn Jean Irwin Jones, 89, of 2656 Horton Road, died Wednesday June 7, 2017, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
An area resident all of her life, she was born July 2, 1927, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Harry and Elvira Benson Irwin.
She was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School and was treasurer for the class reunions for many years. She later graduated from SUNY Empire State College.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by the family business Jones Tasty Baking Company, Inc serving as treasurer and bookkeeper. She earlier had worked for Blue Cross and Blackstone.
Marilyn was an active member of various organizations throughout her life. They include school PTA when her children were younger, Mt. Sinai-Mecca Order of Eastern Star serving as pianist for several years, Chautauqua Weavers Guild and Bethel Lutheran Church where she was Sunday school superintendent, member of church council, Ladies Circle, bell choir and vacation Bible school staff.
Her hobbies include sewing, crafts, weaving and paying piano.
Surviving are children Candace (John) Schupp, Todd M. Jonsson, Kimball (Nancy) Jones, Robin L. (David) Conklin and Matthew R. Jones; grandchildren Kimberly (Travis) Knight, Sean (Liz) Jones, Anastasia (Charles) Wallace, Nicholas (Kjrstn) Conklin, Eric Jonsson, Korrin Jonsson, Brandon (Brandy) Jonsson and Stephen Jonsson; great grandchildren Cyrus and Sage Jones, Maxwell and Gabriella Knight, Hugo Jonsson, Mayte and Gilliana Mundo-Jonsson, Corbin Conklin and Natalie Jonsson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard M. Jones, whom she married May 10, 1947 and who died October 7, 2013 and a brother Winston B. Irwin in 1994.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel Lutheran Church. Rev. Allen Anderson will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
