Obituary of Ronald E. Costello
Ronald Edward Costello, 85, of the Fluvanna-Townline Rd, Jamestown, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 21, 1932 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Fabious Edward and Merna Chambers Costello.
Ron attended Bemus Point Central School before he enlisted in the military. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War aboard the USS Norris.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the area and worked on the Costello Family Farm. Before his retirement he was employed by the Marlin Rockwell Corporation for over 40 years and for the past 15 years was a caretaker at the Bemus Point Cemetery.
He was a member of the Sylvan Masonic Lodge #303, Sinclairville NY, a longtime member of the Ira Lou Spring Post #149, American Legion, the War Vets Recreation Club, the Jamestown Moose Lodge and the United Auto Workers Union Local 338.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Marilyn L. Whiting Costello whom he married October 24, 1953, a daughter, Terry (Darryl) Braley of Jamestown, a son, Randall (Janice) Costello of Murphy, NC, four grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Braley of Buffalo, NY, Ryan (Julie) Braley of Virginia Beach, VA, Alysha (Ryan) Hoag, Andrew Braley both of Dublin, OH, six great grandchildren, Violet and Owen Braley, Natalie and Luke Braley, Jack and Charlie Hoag. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ron was a kind, gentle man and very soft spoken, but with a mischievous sense of humor. His love for his family was rivaled only by his affection for animals. His dogs were his constant companions, and enjoyed feeding the birds and other wildlife.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale Costello, Bruce Costello, Floyd Waite, two sisters, Marjorie Eddy, Bonnie Costello and by an infant daughter.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Doug Kibbe, pastor of Church on the Rock will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.
