Obituary of Janice E. Fardink
Janice E. Fardink, 78, formerly of Ashville, died Tuesday June 20, 2017, in the Lutheran Retirement Home.
An area resident all of her life, she was born August 11, 1938, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Wayland "Bill" Simmes and Mable Chapman Simmes Nelson.
She attended Panama Central School where she participated in the Library Club, Future Homemakers and much to her family's surprise, the Rifle Club.
Prior to her retirement she was a self-employed house cleaner at Chautauqua Institution for many years and was an Avon Representative.
Jan was a very social person. She loved family gatherings at the lake and at the camp in Randolph, meeting friends for lunch at the mall, cheering on the Buffalo Bills as a season ticket holder for several years or going to Stateline Speedway or Eriez Speedway when her husband raced. She loved to decorate the entire house for the holidays, especially Christmas. She was a very talented person and her crafts included cross stitch, crocheting, quilting, knitting and sewing. She loved birds, especially cardinals, and flowers, particularly daisies, lilacs and carnations. Jan enjoyed listening to music, in particular Kenny Rogers. Seeing him in concert was a huge thrill to her. Jan was always supportive to her family and loved spending time with them.
Surviving are her husband, James "Jim" Fardink of Jamestown; two children Terry Lair of Jamestown and Jeffrey (Mary) Fardink of Ashville; grandchildren Joshua Lair, Brian (Kate) Fardink and Lisa (Justin) Bellardo; great grandchildren Mallory Bellardo, Lillyan Lair, Aiden and Tessa Fardink; siblings Patricia (Charles) Marsh of Randolph, Sandra (Ross) Abers of Kennedy, Sylvia (Gerald) Lundberg of Jamestown, David (Karen) Simmes of Panama, a sister-in-law Alice (Eugene) Hulings of Ashville, and several nieces, nephews, step-siblings and their families.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a step mother Geraldine Brightman Simmes; step father Robert Nelson; a brother Richard Simmes and a sister Dorothy Simmes.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday July 1, 2017, in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate.
Friends will be received after the service in the Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Ashville Library, 2200 N Maple Ave, Ashville, NY 14710.
