Obituary of Stephen D. Young

Stephen D. Young, 68, of 3298 West Oak Hill Rd., Jamestown, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, in his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born August 13, 1948 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Donald M. and Versel M. Hagberg Young. Steve was a 1966 graduate of Jamestown High School, a 1969 graduate of Jamestown Community College and earned his bachelor's degree from Fredonia State in 1972. Before his retirement, he had been involved in the banking industry for 35 years, working for the former Marine Midland Bank, Bank of Jamestown, Bankers Trust Company and later for Key Bank. He attended First Covenant Church where he served as an usher for several years and was a member of the Chautauqua Golf Club and the Jamestown Sertoma Club. He was an avid runner, golfer and enjoyed playing basketball and taking care of his dogs. Surviving are his wife of 40 years the former Kaye Swanson whom he married October 23, 1976, a daughter, Sarah (Chris) Carrier of Richmond, VA, a son, Jonathan "Jay" Young of Jamestown, a brother, Douglas G. (Michelle) Young of Overland Park, KS, a brother-in-law, Dr. Larry Knipp of Chicago, IL, a sister- in-law Linda V. Swanson of Lakewood, NY and an uncle, Allen Young of MI. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Young Knipp. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor of First Covenant Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
