Obituary of Robert C. Schmitter
Robert C. "Safari Bob" Schmitter, 80, formerly of Dewittville, passed away Wednesday July 12, 2017 in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born October 31, 1936 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Edward and Georgiana Breissinger Schmitter.
Bob was a US Navy Veteran. He had worked at Clarence Schools as Maintenance Supervisor and also prepared taxes and did general accounting for individuals. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated the Safari Campground in Dewittville, NY for many years.
Bob was a member of the VFW, the War Vets, and the Vikings where he served as treasurer for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and LOVES the Buffalo Bills.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Sandra LeVeque Schmitter; two daughters, Christine L. (Phil) Bajdo of Mayville, NY; Janice (John) Scozzafava of Tonawanda, NY; a son, James T. Kayko of Lima, NY; nine grandchildren, including his youngest grandson Jeffrey T. Bajdo; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Blanch Schmitter; a daughter, Michele Ann Nathan; and a sister, Sue Spraker.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday August 4, 2017 in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point, NY. The Rev. Todd M. Remick, pastor will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Nativity Cemetery Orchard Park, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Viking Lodge #65 IOV, 214 North Main Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
