Obituary of Pauline J. Carmen

Pauline Jane Carmen transcended the bounds of earthly life Tuesday July 25 at Heritage Park. Polly came to the world September 2, 1928, in Crucible, Pa. to Paul and Helen Billick, and is the older sister of Cecilia and Paul. She spent her childhood in Crucible - a genuine coal miner's daughter. Following graduation from high school she moved to Pittsburg, and the next chapter in a full and authentically lived life. While living there she met Sam Carmen, of Jamestown, NY, who was building a new life for himself gaining an education thanks to the GI Bill. They married June 18, 1948 and eventually returned to Jamestown to make a life and a family together. With love they brought sons, Sam and Jeff into the world and welcomed Judalee, David, Rhonda and John (JJ) into their hearts, forever. Polly and Sam loved children and welcomed many foster children into their home and their lives for many years. They were active in foster parent activities. We say attending parent teacher conferences for their kids kept them young at heart and in spirit for years. Later, Polly discovered her love for travel. Regular visits to Spain were a part of her life, as well as trips to casinos, family and friends. Sam slipped past the joy of earthly life in January 1995, and son David in 1992. She was also preceded in death by dear friends Aldor Anderson in 2015 and Richard Kogut in 2016. Polly is survived by her brother Paul (Josephine) Billick, dearest cousin Mary Glad of Uniontown, Pa, sons Sam (Vicky) of Sturgeon Bay, WI., Jeff of Edwardsburg, MI, daughter, Judalee (Patrick) of Falmouth, United Kingdom, grandchildren Paul and Aspen, and many nieces and nephews. The gratitude of the family for the care Mom received from Dr. John LaMancuso, the staff at the Orchard Grove Assisted Living Facility and Heritage Park is boundless. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. A celebration of Polly's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday September 2, 2017, in the Lind Funeral Home. Friends will be received from 11-11:30 a.m. in the funeral home on the day of the service. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
