Obituary of George P. Tichy

George Philip Tichy, 93, of the Kortwright Road in Ashville, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in his home. He was the husband of the late Mary Brunecz Tichy whom he married June 14, 1947 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Corry, Pa. and who died April 9, 2017. They had resided in their Ashville home since shortly after their marriage. George was born September 19, 1923 in Dayton, OH, a son of the late Philip and Marie Zahumenski Tichy. He retired from Dahlstrom Manufacturing as a case maker and belonged to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Together with his late wife, he also owned and operated a small dairy farm. George was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church where he belonged to the Holy Name Society and served as an usher and lector. He also served on the Panama Central School Board for a number of years. He enjoyed bowling, roller skating, movies and motorcycle riding, as well as World War II and Holocaust history. Surviving are four daughters: Elizabeth (Robert) Sprankle of Lakewood, Irene (Jon) Anderson of Ashville, Phyllis (Glenn) Hamilton of Lakewood and Christine (David) Voorhis of Panama; as well as a nephew, Michael (Cynthia) Brunecz whom George and Mary helped raise and who was like a son to them. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren: Rob (Beth) Sprankle, Kim (Scott) Wise, Kait (Lucius) Curtis, Cinnamon Anderson, Andrew (Amanda) Anderson, Wendi (Phil McGrath) Hamilton-Nagy, Jeff Hamilton, Josh (Samantha) Hamilton, Melissa (Craig) Kaufman, Bryan (Dea) Voorhis, Amanda (John) Marengo, Dustin (FredaAnn) Voorhis and Angela (Elliot) Smith; and eighteen great-grandchildren: Ashleigh, Nicole & Kelsey Nagy, Gregory & Justin Yuchnitz, Aleena & AndeeLynn Anderson, Taya Curtis, Katherine & Liliana Sprankle, Tommy & Danny Wise, Kenna and Griffin George Kaufman, Lydia & Juliet Voorhis, Briella Marengo and Darian Loebe. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a step-mother, Anna Kinderman Tichy; and sisters and brothers: Joanne Kinderman, Emil Zamsky, Tony, Louie & Louise Tichy and Joe, Carl, Annie & Mary Lou Kinderman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Panama. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery, Niobe. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m..
