Obituary of Doris M. Nelson

Doris Marie Collins Nelson, 96, of Jamestown, passed away Saturday August 12, 2017 surrounded by her family in the Lutheran Retirement Home. She was born December 15, 1920 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Francis and Edna Hollander Collins. Doris was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and graduated from Jamestown Business College. She had been employed at Chautauqua Opportunities, retiring at the age of 86. She also worked at TaCo Products, the former Jamestown Telephone Co., and the New York State Employment Service. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Doris enjoyed meeting friends for coffee at Burger King. Surviving are a son, Thomas J. Nelson of Jamestown; three daughters, Joan M. Johnson of Jamestown; Jayne B. (Barry) Walker of Centerville, PA; Patti J. (Ed) Dudenhoeffer of Jamestown; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Walker, Robert Walker, Ashley Walker, Michelle Glatz, Sean Dudenhoeffer; and three great grandchildren, Dylan Glatz, Ethan Glatz, and Tyson Walker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Nelson whom she married May 24, 1946 and who died November 29, 1988; a brother, John Collins; and two sisters, Myrtle C. Norris and Elizabeth "Betty" Collins. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday August 16th in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake service will be led by the Rev. Dennis W. Mende at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
