Obituary of Harriett A. Schauers

Harriett A. Schauers, 81, formerly of 217 Winchester Rd. Lakewood, NY, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center while under the care of Hospice. A lifelong area resident, she was born March 24, 1936 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Merritt H. and Rose G. Smith Jobe. She was a 1954 graduate of Jamestown High School and in earlier years had worked for the former Loblaw's Grocery Store. Harriett had a strong faith and over the years had attended Holy Apostles Parish at SS Peter and & Paul Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, where she enjoyed participating in Bible studies. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, sister and aunt who always put other people before herself. She loved and prayed for everyone and was always doing things for others and truly had a gift of hospitality. Harriett enjoyed knitting, reading and doing crafts. She was active in the Salvation Army group that knit baby outfits and hats for those in need. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, John J. Schauers whom she married September 21, 1957, a sister; Eleanor M. Gregory of Corry, PA and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Merritt H. Jobe, Jr. who died November 13, 2015. The funeral will be held at 5:00 pm Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home.
