Obituary of Oreste S. Lucchesi
Oreste S. Lucchesi, 84, of 145 Chandler Street Jamestown, passed away Monday August 14, 2017 in UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born November 16, 1932 in Jamestown the son of the late Renaldo and Anna Manera Lucchesi.
Oreste was a graduate of Jamestown High School where he played and excelled at all sports. His love of sports started at an early age when he received a gift membership to the Jamestown Boys Club. Because his dad died when he was 1 year old, the Boys Club and sports gave him a chance to get out of the house away from an all female family. Following graduation, he joined the US Navy on September 15, 1952, serving as a 3rd class petty officer onboard the USS John W. Weeks Destroyer Ship as a signal man. He was discharged on September 15, 1956. On October 11, 1956 he started working at MRC Corp until his retirement at the age of 62.
In addition to the Boys Club, he was a member of the Falconer and Lakewood American Legions. He loved animals, children, golfing, cooking and sharing what he cooked with others. He was a very giving man who would do anything for anyone, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Oreste was a kind, big hearted man who possessed a quick wit and had a sharp mind even when his body was failing. His generous heart and tenacious spirit helped him to stay independent, never complaining.
Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Susan J. Christiansen (Paul R. Orsenigo) of West Palm Beach, FL; Sheryle (John) O'Neill of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Maxwell Meyers Christiansen and Kelly Susan Christiansen both of West Palm Beach, FL; Mark Ryan O'Neill of Jamestown; Adam Michael O'Neill of Dryden, NY; nieces and nephews, Ray Paterniti, KathyAnn Paterniti, and Shirley (deVaudreuil) Nickles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Paterniti and Rena deVaudreuil; aunts and uncles, Frank and Sally Manera; Sam Manera; and a nephew, Jerry deVaudreuil.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday (two hours prior to the service) in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys and Girls Club of Jamestown, 62 Allen Street, Jamestown, NY 14701-6688.
