Obituary of Richard D. Van Every

Richard D. Van Every, Sr., 87, of Tanglewood Manor, formerly of 112 Newland Avenue, died Thursday August 17, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua WCA. An area resident all of his life, he was born August 9, 1930, in Jamestown, a son of the late Walter and Jane Simmons Van Every, Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Southwestern Central School where he proudly played on the basketball team and was crowned King Winter. He was a Korean War veteran of the US Navy serving from 1951-54. He was a member of Carpenters Local #66 and worked for G. L. Olson, V&N Construction, Scalise Construction and Peterson Sturzenbecker. He was extremely proud of participating in the construction of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute building. He loved his children and grandchildren and was proud of each one of them. He was an avid hunter and he and his brother Gordy were always in pursuit of a monster buck. Surviving are four children Mary Jane (Brian Washburg) Van Every and Patricia (Mike) Ventura both of Jamestown, Richard (Melissa) Van Every, Jr. of Newport News, VA and Sandra (William) Smith of Ashville; eleven grandchildren Elizabeth (Nolan) Aiken of Jamestown, Courtney (Adam Plantz) Ventura of Parkville, MD, Samantha (Dillon Sedar) Ventura of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Madison Ventura of Jamestown, Amanda (Jason) Burns of Newport News, VA, Richard (Megan Price) Van Every III of Schenectady, NY, Jessica Van Every, Robert Van Every and Kayla (Jeremy Johnson) Van Every all of Newport News, VA, Mitchell (Aly Logue) Smith of Jamestown and Matthew (Alex Bollman) Smith of Ashville; nine great grandchildren and one on the way; a brother Roger Van Every of Lakewood and a sister Donna Lindstrom of Ripley. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Mary Triscari Van Every whom he married April 7, 1958 and who died April 28, 2008; two brothers Walter and Gordon Van Every and a sister Dorothy Bush. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Dayle F. Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
