Obituary of Larry E. Briggs
Larry E. Briggs,77, of Stow, NY, entered into his eternal rest surrounded by his family at 8:10 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2017, in the St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, PA.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 28, 1940 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Lauros A. and Thelma I. Erhart Briggs.
Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1957 to 1960.
Before his retirement in 1998, he was employed by the City of Jamestown Board of Public Utilities as an electrical lineman for 30 years.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY and a member of the Herman Kent Post 777, American Legion, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Sugar Grove Am Vets Post 50.
Larry loved spending time outdoors gardening and especially fishing, but his highlight was always his special "deer season", with his family and friends. His last deer was taken in November of 2016 with the help of his grandson Matthew and son-in-law Thomas.
In retirement, Larry became involved with local household and estate sales with his daughter Stephanie. He enjoyed the sales, the work, the chatter and so many friends. He would always be found in the garage, laughing, making jokes and talking with so many people. He always looked forward to the time he spent at Myrtle Beach with his family and many friends. He loved everything about the beach from A-Z, especially the ribs on Tuesday and a trip to Sam's Club wasn't complete without a berry good sundae. Larry's quick wit, so very humorous, and his ability to make others laugh and smile was truly a special gift. Our family circle will always be broken. A void so deep , no words can explain.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shirley A. Robertson Briggs whom he married May 4, 1963, a daughter, Stephanie (Thomas) Tutmaher of Mayville, NY, two sons, Patrick L. (Kaori) Briggs of Pendleton, NY, Todd C. Briggs of Myrtle Beach, SC, four grandchildren that he cherished and treasured, Matthew Tutmaher, Sydnie Tutmaher both of Mayville, Isabella Briggs, Nina Briggs both of Pendleton, two sisters, Delores "Peachy" (Richard) Sampson of Greenhurst, NY, Patricia (Richard) Schlauder of Binghamton, NY, a brother, Michael Briggs of Myrtle Beach, SC, two sister-in-laws, Phyllis Robertson, Carol Lundmark both of Jamestown as well as many nieces and nephews also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor will be celebrant. Burial with full military honors will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
