Obituary of Julia Phelan

Julia C. Phelan, 63, of 116 VanBuren St. Jamestown, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 in her home following a brief illness. An area resident for the past 32 years, she was born October 5, 1954 in Far Rockaway, NY, a daughter of the late William Francis and Rose Crovella Phelan. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Julia will be remembered as a constant caregiver to her mother for many years and was always there taking care of other family members as well. She loved her daughter and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She was also very active in the foster grandparent program and liked to play bingo and loved her trips to the casino. Surviving are a daughter, Katie (Eric) Cavness of Jamestown, two grandchildren, Elliot Cavness and Alexandria Cavness both of Jamestown and her nine brothers and sisters, Michael Phelan, Maureen (Douglas) Berlin, Eileen (Jack) Raab, Theresa Phelan, Catherine DeSagun, Rosemary (Steve) Horan, William Phelan, Robert Phelan and Edward (Lori) Phelan. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her nephew, Matthew Sean Berlin who died June 27, 2017. The funeral will be held at 6 pm Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Friends will be received from 4-6 pm Thursday prior to the service.
