Obituary of Michael R. Hogan

Michael R. Hogan, 67, of Lakewood, NY, passed away early in the evening on Monday, December 11, 2017, in his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 3, 1950 in Olean, NY, a son of the late Edward and Helen Kamler Hogan. Mike had a long and distinguished 30 year career in the field of energy exploration and development, working in the oil and gas industry from the position of well site leader to an accomplished executive as owner of Hogan Energy Consulting. He possessed the unique ability to be comfortable and respected, whether on a drilling rig in Texas or the boardrooms of Wall Street. His many years of experience included the domestic and international projects as well as executive level positions in highly respected companies. His facility in acquisitions and divestitures made him a trusted advisor to many throughout the oil and gas industry. His passion and dedication for the industry saw him give his time unselfishly whenever there was a need to educate the public on the true story of energy development. He served on many boards and was elected President of the Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York for the 1993 term. His breadth and scope of all aspects of the industry was impressive. In his early years, Mike pursued skiing and race car driving both to a high level of competition. He was a sailing enthusiast on Chautauqua Lake. He was a former board member of the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club and raced E-Scows nationally with the yacht club. His passion for sailing has taken him to many regattas in the United States and other countries. Mike loved to travel to the Caribbean, most frequently to the British Virgin Islands, for sailing leisure. Mike supported many local organizations including the St. Susan's Soup Kitchen, Chautauqua County Humane Society and music charities. He also supported many activities within the Southwestern Central School District and the Jamestown Lakers Ice Hockey Club. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Surviving are his wife, Rebekka Hogan-Mertens whom he married August 11, 2012, his step-children; Conrad Meyer, Elisabeth Meyer, Philipp Meyer, Corey (Hope) Aures, Elizabeth (Benjamin) Alonso and a step-grandchild; Benjamin Aures.
