Obituary of Donald M. Teater
Donald M. Teater, 92, of 160 Greenhurst Village Drive, Jamestown, passed away at 7:51 am Saturday, December 30, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital.
An area resident for most of his life, he was born December 9, 1925 in Genesee, PA, a son of the late Clifford L. and Ruth Bishop Teater.
He was a graduate of Wellsville High School and was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on a mine sweeper during World War II.
Before his retirement he was the President of Chautauqua Storage and Transfer, a family business that was started by his father-in-law.
Don was a member and past commander of the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion, a life member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge, a member of the Jamestown Elks Lodge and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling in several leagues over the years. He will be remembered as one who loved being outdoors. He would take care of his neighbors homes by mowing their lawn or shoveling their driveway just to be outdoors and helping people.
Surviving are his four children, Donald L. (Sally) Teater, Sherry (Gary) Carnes all of Jamestown, Gary (Patric Achilles) Teater of Naples, Fl, Jon Teater, of Celoron, a step-son, Michael (Pam) Masters of Panama, nine grandchildren, Christina (Ryan) Parks, Laura Classon, Katie (Nick) Lucas all of Jamestown, Adam Carnes of Davenport, FL, Laurie Teater of Roanoke, VA, Kellie (Brandon) Lawson of Naples, FL, Natalie Byard of Atlanta, GA, Emily Anderson of Falconer, NY, Jon Teater, Jr. of Warren, PA and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion of many years Thelma Dowd of Greenhurst, NY.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Dalrymple Teater, his second wife, Marjorie Masters Teater, a sister, Adelaide Gates, a brother, Benjamin Teater and a great granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Parks.
A private family service will be held.
Friends will be received from 4-6 pm Thursday, January 4, 2018, in the Lind Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228 or to a veterans organization.
