Obituary of Frank A. Traniello

Frank A. Traniello, 84, of West Oak Hill Road, Jamestown, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Erie County Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Jamestown, he was born August 11, 1933 to the late Anthony and Yolanda Traniello. He was a graduate of Falconer High School, Jamestown Community College and State University at Buffalo. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 and was stationed in Mannheim, Germany where he was an ammunition supply specialist responsible for the inventory and distribution of munitions to all Army units in the U.S. sector, Germany. He received the U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal and the Foreign Occupation Medal before his honorable discharge in June 1957. He was employed by Marlin Rockwell Corporation for 18 years as a Tool & Die Maker, and then by R.P. Hewes Occupational Center where he taught machine trades and blueprinting for 22 years, retiring in 1995. He worked tirelessly as a liaison throughout the community helping to place his students in industry upon graduation. During that time, he was also an adjunct engineering professor at Jamestown Community College. Additionally, he taught numerous specialized courses for the Private Industry Council at many local industrial facilities. He was a member of the State Retired Teachers Association, the Southern Chautauqua County Retired Teachers Association, the United Veterans Council, the Celtic Club and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 263. Frank was a life member of the AMVETS Post 726, where he served as third vice commander and was a member of the honor guard. He was deeply moved when he was selected to be the Grand Marshal for the Jamestown Memorial Day Parade in 2002. He was also a life member of Holy Apostles Parish, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the cemetery committee, mission team, the Catholic Charities finance committee and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. For many years, he developed a strategic plan and coordinated a large group of dedicated volunteers to place flags on veteran’s graves for every Memorial Day. It was of utmost importance to him for servicemen and women to be honored for their service to our country. Frank loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed metal and woodworking and was a gifted craftsman. He was an excellent cook and baker, and delighted everyone with his stories often starting with a twinkle and the phrase “This friend of mine…” Most of all, Frank will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband of 60 years to his lovely “Irish Colleen,” Elizabeth (Kennedy) Traniello; wonderful father to Lisa Traniello, and Lauren (Andrew) Barlow; and the best Poppie to Jordan Elizabeth and Alec Barlow, all of Williamsville. He is also survived by a sister, Theresa (Joe) Phillips of Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Craig, and his sister, Marie Traniello Culver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 in Holy Apostles Parish, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2018, in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. 3rd St, Jamestown, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
