Obituary of Dale J. Boyd

Dale James "Jim" Boyd, 83, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident for most of his life, he was born March 26, 1934 in Detroit, MI a son of the late James Dale and Elvie Fredlund Boyd. Before his retirement he was the owner of Boyd's Small Engine Repair for over 20 years. In previous years he had worked for the former Amsco Excel Corporation for 19 years until it's closing and also worked at the former Hanson Hardware in Warren, PA for several years. He was confirmed and baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Jmaestown. He had a keen interest in astronomy and worked with Marshall Martz grinding the mirror on the first 16 inch telescope for the Martz Observatory. He also had an interest in boats and cars and was a member of the Lawson Boat Center in Bemus Point and the Chris Craft Boat Society. Surviving are his wife, Elsie G. Paulson Boyd whom he married July 25, 1958, two sons, Leland (Kathryn) Boyd, Daniel Boyd, three grandchildren, Aaron Boyd, Alannah Boyd, Leah Boyd and five great grandchildren all of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Whitehead and his Aunt and Uncle, Leonard and Sara Lucille Fredlund, who raised him while growing up in the Ashville Bay area. A private family service will be held in the Sunset Hill Cemetery Chapel. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
