Obituary of Amy L. Weaver

Amy Louise Koechling Weaver, age 81, of 175 Aldren Ave. and Estero FL, formerly of Buck Hollow Lodge and Prendergast Point, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 peacefully in her home surrounded by family. A Jamestown area resident for most of her life, she was born August 11, 1936 in Floral Park, NY, a daughter of the late Charles Dewey and Caroline Frances Tabor Koechling. Amy was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park and earned her bachelor's degree in Social Work from Alfred University where she was a member of the Theta Theta Chi Sorority and also where she met her future husband, Don. Amy and Don were married in 1959 and began their life in Jamestown. In her earlier years, she had been employed as a Social Worker at the Gowanda State Hospital. While making her life as a homemaker and caring for their children, Amy enjoyed giving her time by volunteering at the WCA Hospital Gift Shop and at Hurlbut Memorial U.M. Church in Chautauqua. Amy also worked at the former Green Farm in Lakewood and at the International Order of the Kings, Daughters and Sons in Chautauqua Institution for several years. She was a longtime active member of the Christ First United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir for 40 years, was a Sunday school teacher, a member and past President of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Easter People singing group. She was also an associate member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, FL. Amy was very active in her community, always volunteering her time and talents as a member of many organizations including The Creche, Inc., current member of the Philanthropic Education Organization, the Mozart Club and the Mozart Choir, was a past Treasurer and board member for the United Methodist House in Chautauqua Institution for 9 years, a volunteer at the Lawson Boat Center in Bemus Point, a member of the Moon Brook Country Club women's golf and bowling league and a member of the Pelican Sound Golf and River Club in Estero, FL. While a resident of Florida, she played in various golf and tennis leagues as well as playing mahjong with her group of special friends. As a special woman to many, Amy was a loving, caring person with a positive perspective on life. Amy would light up any room she entered. She remains alive in the hearts of her devoted husband of 58 years, Don S. Weaver, Sr. whom she married September 5, 1959; a son, Dean Weaver and his wife, Debbie of Jamestown, NY; three daughters: Nancy Gilbertsen and her husband, Greg of Columbus, OH, Allison Dawson of Estero, FL, and Betsy Sicher and her husband, John of Mars, PA. She will always be remembered by her 11 grandchildren: Danielle Weaver of Orchard Park, NY; Drew Weaver and his wife, Jaime of Mars, PA; Douglas Weaver and his wife, Kristi of Jamestown; Trey, Madeline and Owen Dawson of Estero, FL; Zachary, Carli and Christopher Sicher of Mars, PA; and Naomi and Ian Gilbertsen of Powell, Ohio; a great grandson Oliver Weaver and a great granddaughter expected February 14th,,both of Mars, PA; and two sisters, Francis Rogers of North Carolina and Helena Harrison and her husband, Bill, of New Hampshire. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Koechling. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 3rd at Christ First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Matthew Rowe and the Rev. Douglas Knopp will officiate. Friends will be received from 4 to 7pm Friday, February 2nd in the Lind Funeral Home.
