Obituary of Garth H. Secor
"When The Saints Go Marching In"
Garth H. "Bud" Secor completed his journey on earth early Sunday morning, February 18, 2018. Formerly of 1318 Newland Avenue, he passed away peacefully in his home on Aldren Avenue with his family at his side.
Bud was born June 2, 1928 in Jamestown, the son of the late Guy and Sylvia Newville Secor. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Beth Gustafson in 2008, and a sister, Jean Coleman.
A 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School, Bud began work as an automobile mechanic. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Saff on September 17, 1950 and shortly thereafter was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served from 1950 until 1952 in the 24th Infantry Division - 724th Ordinance Outfit as a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic.
Following military service, Bud became an excellent toolmaker. In early years he was a toolmaker at Hy-Grade and the Blackstone Corporation. He retired after many years with Allegheny Tool in Clarendon, Pa.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Koinonia and the American Legion. He and his wife, Betty, also delivered Meals on Wheels for 14 years.
Bud was always a kind and gentle soul. He enjoyed researching and tracing his family tree, bird watching and travel, especially a trip to the Hawaiian Islands to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, Betty, he is survived by two daughters, Shari (Rick) Erickson of Lakewood, NY, and Shelly (Jerry) Davis of Jamestown; a son, Steven (Linda) Secor of Asheville, NC; son-in-law, David Gustafson of Freeport, ME; and Zaiton Md. Noh, an exchange student from Malaysia, who lived with the Secor's during a year of her high school and has remained very close with the family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will not be observed at this time.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 825 Forest Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701; or Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
