Obituary of JoAnn S. Montgomery

JoAnn S. Montgomery, 67, of Gerry, formerly of Westfield, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 21, 2018 at UPMC Chautauqua WCA. She was born July 22, 1950, in St. Mary's, PA, the daughter of the late Robert H. and Rita A. (Christian) Sphar. She earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from SUNY Fredonia. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services as a Long Term Care Medicaid Examiner for over 20 years. She was also very proud of her membership in the CSEA Union and fought passionately for other Union members for many years. She loved spending time with her family and friends especially her granddaughters and grand-puppies. She loved playing games, from cards and cribbage to Yahtzee and anything in between, and was guaranteed to give you a run for your money no matter what game you challenged her at. JoAnn and her family will be eternally grateful and thankful for her many caregivers which she had the pleasure of knowing over the years. Surviving are her three children and their families, Andre (Lisa) Montgomery and their girls Lexis and Brittany from Sheffield Lake, OH, Jon (Shahad) Montgomery and their girls Cortland and Vivian of Westfield, NY and Audra (Kurt) Moeller and their girls Katelyn and McKenzie of Gerry, NY. She is also survived by her former husband Roy Lee (Charles Dosado) Montgomery of Lily Dale, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Laura Christine Montgomery and a brother Dale T. Sphar. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown, NY and friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
