Obituary of Bonnie Jean Nelson
Bonnie Jean Nelson, 80, of 2450 Vukote Rd., Ashville, NY, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, in the St. Vincent's Health Center, Erie, PA, surrounded by her family and holding the hand of her beloved husband Edwin.
An area resident for most of her life, she was born February 21, 1938 in Beaverdale, PA, a daughter of the late Robert F. and Hazel J. MacTavish Costlow.
Before her retirement she was a waitress at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club for 25 years. She had worked at several area restaurants over the years and early on had met her husband while working at the former Jenkins Dairy.
She was a member of the Busti Church of God and will be remembered for her love of music. She loved to play the piano and listen to the old hymns and had previously taught piano lessons. She also loved to do ceramics and other crafts.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin N. Nelson, Jr, four children; Laura (Todd) Gilbert of Lakewood, NY, Edwin N. Nelson, III, of Ashville, James B. (Kimberly) Nelson of Lakewood, Tracy Emerson of Ashville, 15 grandchildren; Edwin N. Nelson, IV, Nichole Potter, Ryan Curcio, Jennifer Nelson, Bonnie Curcio, James Nelson, Jr., Ashley Nelson, Troy Carlson, Alicia Moore, Brian Nelson, Colten Swan, Michaele Marsh, Nolan Emerson, Marissa Nelson and Miranda Nelson, three step-grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren with two on the way, two sisters; Debbie Guiffrida of Gerry, NY, Sandie "Weezie" Kost of Russell, PA. She spent most of her childhood years with her grandparents James and Edna "Mum Mum & Pap Pap" MacTavish.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Douglas A. Nelson who died March 3, 2016 and four brothers, Richard, Robert, Dennis and James Costlow.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy G. Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in the Bentley-Lakewood Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6-8 pm Monday in the funeral home.
