Obituary of Kenneth D. Harris
Kenneth D. Harris, 65, of Jamestown, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 3, 2018, in Salamanca, NY, surrounded by his loving wife and two of his grandchildren.
An area resident for most of his life, he was born August 2, 1952 at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, MA, a son of the late Margaret Elizabeth Unger Harris.
Ken was a graduate of Holyoke High School in Holyoke, MA and attended the University of Scranton. Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from March 30, 1972 to June 20, 1975, where he worked in secure communications for the U.S. Consulate in Bangkok, Thailand. Following his tour of duty in the Army, he attended Jamestown Community College majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology.
In previous years he worked in the electronics business and then worked in retail automobile sales and parts until his retirement.
He was a member of the Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion, Falconer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was the owner of Kencatch'em Fishing Lures, where he handcrafted specialty fishing lures from his home. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren meant more to him than anything in the world.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Cappalino Harris whom he married July 10, 1998, his five children; Rachel Harris of Baltimore, MD, Peter Harris of Watertown, NY, Lauren Marucci of Dunkirk, NY, Jami Marucci of Celoron, NY, Leonard Marucci of Jamestown, NY, six grandchildren; Timothy Dougherty, Lillianna Dougherty of Baltimore, Gavin Harris, Dylan Harris of Watertown, Eian Cooley, Emma Cooley of Dunkirk, two brothers; Charles "Rich" (Joyce) Harris of Kennedy, NY, Robert Cole of Jamestown, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his mother Margaret E. Unger who died May 11, 1999, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles Llewellyn Unger and Anna Paulin Unger, a sister, Christine Harris who died May 29, 2016 and a brother John Cole who died January 4, 2014.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be celebrant.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 7:45 pm Friday in the funeral home.
