Obituary of Betty E. Olson

Betty E. Olson, 91, formerly of 32 Englewood Ave Jamestown and the Frewsburg Rest Home, passed away Monday March 12, 2018 in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A Jamestown resident since 1939, she was born December 4, 1926 in LaPorte, IN the daughter of the late Efraim J. and Edith Gustafson Olson. Betty was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School. Prior to retirement in 1989, she was employed at the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities as a secretary. She was a member of First Covenant Church where she sang in the Choir for many years. Betty enjoyed golfing and traveled throughout the US and Europe; she especially enjoyed visiting Scandinavian countries. In quiet moments she enjoyed needlepoint and cross-stitch. Betty is survived by her sister - in - law, Geraldine Mae Olson of Eagle River, Alaska and by five Olson nephews. Garth and Todd of Anchorage, Alaska; Geoffrey of Ninilchik, Alaska, and Rory and Quentin who live in the Seattle, WA area. Betty was also fortunate to have the McCanna family in the Jamestown area who spent time with her for many years; since her closer relatives have lived so far away. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Olson; a sister, Barbara O. Richmond; and by her niece Deidre McCombs. No service or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Covenant Church, 520 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of choice.
