Obituary of Martin Schnars

Martin J. Schnars, 61, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018, in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Gerry NY. He was born December 4, 1956 in Jamestown, NY, the son of James W. Schnars and Donna S. LeRoy . Marty was a 1975 graduate of Southwestern Central School where he excelled in sports, winning many awards for track and football. He went on to attend Jamestown Community College and graduated from Fredonia State College where he received a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. Over the years, Marty worked as a real estate agent, and then later as a police officer in Fort Myers, Florida. Marty loved being a practical joker, always trying to make someone laugh. He also loved animals and was a huge Buffalo Bills fan. He is survived by his father, James W. Schnars of West Ellicott, his mother, Donna Barlow of Jamestown, sister and brother-in-law Lori and Sterling Pollaro of Gerry, a brother Mark Schnars of Charlotte, North Carolina, a daughter Hanna Schnars and a son Seth Schnars of Fort Myers, Florida, his lifelong best friend Karl "KG" Gustafson of Canajoharie, NY and several aunts , uncles, nieces and nephews. Marty was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry and Ethel Schnars and his maternal grandparents, James and Evelyn LeRoy. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Kilburn, pastor of the Sherman Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Ross Mills Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
