Obituary of Doris E. Depas
Doris E. Depas,78, of 3393 Carpenter-Pringle Rd., Stow, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 6, 2018, in the St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA.
A lifelong area resident, she was born December 22, 1939 at the family home in Lakewood, NY, a daughter of the late Ovien and Frances Gray Gray.
Doris was a graduate of Southwestern High School and earned her nursing degree from the Jamestown Community College School of Nursing. Following her retirement she worked as a home health care nurse for several years.
Before her retirement she was employed as a registered nurse at the Warren State Hospital, Warren, PA for many years.
She attended the Fluvanna Community Church and in earlier years was a Sunday school teacher at Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was a member of the North Harmony Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed playing cards every week with her friends. She was also the secretary for her Southwestern High School class reunion committee. She also loved playing the piano and was a member of the Piano Teacher's Association and taught piano lesson to many children over the years.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was exceptionally kind to all those that needed help. Before her nursing career she took care of special needs people in her own home. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, doing puzzles and playing games. She knit hundreds of helmet hats for the soldiers in Iran. She will also be remembered as a loyal New York Mets Fan.
Surviving are her husband of 26 years, V. William Depas whom she married on her birthday December 22, 1991, three children; Stephanie L. Sheffield Wallace of Kennedy, NY, Scot A. (Joanna) Hedlund, Shawnee I. (Jeffrey) Territo both of Jamestown, six grandchildren; Loren Ruggerio, Dennis A. Wallace, Tara (Charlie) Darling, Alicia D. (Peter) Payne-Lepiane, James Adams, Jillian (Eric) Truver, nine great grandchildren; Hannah, Hailey, Kaden, Addison, Warick, Sloane, Harper, Raelynn, Alivia, three step-sons; Randy Depas of Lakewood, NY, Robert Spencer, Richard Spencer both of Jamestown, a brother; Norman Gray of Jamestown. She is also survived by her very precious dog "Milia".
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Sondra D. Payne who died April 10, 2016 and a brother, Eugene Gray.
The funeral will be held at 1:30p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home.
