Obituary of Delbert R. Mee

Delbert R. "Del" Mee, 78, of E. Main St. Ext., Falconer, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. He was born March 27, 1940 in Jamestown, the son of the late Dorothy and Ralph T. Mee, Jr. Del was a 1957 graduate of Falconer High School and 1962 graduate of Cornell University. A 36 year employee of Monofrax (formerly Carborundum) in Falconer, he held several technical positions including, lab technician, quality auditor, process engineer, head of inspection, and retired as senior application engineer. Some career highlights were introducing the EPIC casting technique in the early 1960's, writing SOP for building new plants in India and Japan, and writing first specification booklets for customers. He was especially proud of work done in the 1990's, quoting, processing orders, entertaining customers and overseeing shipping for orders worth over $100 million to European customers. Del was also a sports enthusiast, having played in basketball, bowling, baseball, softball and golf leagues over the years. He was a past club champion at the former Conewango Forks, now Cardinal Hills Golf Club, and had made five holes-in-one. In later years, he became interested in and did extensive work on family genealogy. He also became involved in the local history of his home Town of Poland, including updating cemetery records for all cemeteries in the town. Del was a devoted husband, father and son and enjoyed many trips with his family. He was a hardworking man who valued his family and many lifelong friendships. Surviving are his wife, the former Linda Glass; a daughter, Melissa K. Mee of Falconer and son, Philip R. Mee of Waterford, CT; and an aunt, Edith Landquist of Falconer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet Baglia. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Al Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
