Obituary of Charles E. McGowan
Charles E. McGowan, 69, of Bemus Point, passed away unexpectedly Friday May 18, 2018 at UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital.
He was born October 22, 1948 in Marathon, NY the son of the late Anthony and Mary Ebel McGowan.
Charles served 4 years in the US Army. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in general studies and his Masters in Secondary Education. For 15 years, he worked for the Treasury Department and 10 years for the Veterans Administration.
He served on the YMCA Camp Onyahsa Board of Directors, and was a longtime member of Safari Club International. An avid outdoorsman, Charles was instrumental in initiating Hunters Helping the Hungry.
Surviving are his wife, Lori Hendricks McGowan; a son, Christian McGowan of Lakewood, NY; a daughter, Kelsi Lynch of Verona, NJ; a grandson, Chase McGowan of Lakewood; a sister, Nancy McGowan of Ithaca, NY; and a brother, Robert (Pat) McGowan of Winthrop Harbor, IL.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Leslie McGowan; and two daughters, Heather and Amanda McGowan.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Moonbrook Country Club from Noon to 2 p.m.
