Obituary of Florence A. Olson

Florence A. Olson, 86, of 120 Aldren Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 9:52 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. An area resident for most of her life, she was born May 25, 1931 in Antrim, PA, a daughter of the late Marsdin and Hildegard Carlson VanOrder. Florence was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School and in earlier years was confirmed and baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister who loved to go on long walks where she appreciated nature and enjoyed watching the birds. She also loved attending her husband Harold's many musical events. She belonged to several bridge clubs and loved the time she spent with her friends and family. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Harold G. Olson, whom she married December 1, 1951, her three children, Deborah (Tim) Anderson, Mark T. (Megan) Olson, Beth (Don, Jr.) Bloomquist all of Jamestown, eight grandchildren, Emily (Aaron) Compton, Kyle (Kassandra Prunty) Anderson both of Erie, PA, Grant (Kristin) Olson, Claire (Will) Griffith of Jamestown, Lucas (Samantha Raynor) Olson of Buffalo, NY, Graydon Olson of Denver, CO, Brianna Wilkinson of SC, Benjamin Bloomquist of Jamestown, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Marian (Donald) Leathers of Jamestown, Sandy (Marvin) O'Quist of Greenhurst, NY and a brother, Marsdin "Sonny" (Jeanne) VanOrder of VT, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dana Olson and two sisters, Lucille Spitz and Carolyn VanOrder. A public gathering celebrating Flo's life will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, in the Rosch Center on the campus of Lutheran Social Services.
