Obituary of Elizabeth A. Coan

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Coan, 85, of 2882 Garfield Road, Jamestown, died Monday May 28, 2018, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born September 5, 1932, in New York City, a daughter of the late Martha Irish. She was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School. Her working career began at the Bank of Jamestown and later Marine Midland Bank. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by CVS Pharmacy. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from the many years she spent raising her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also had a love for animals, especially cats. Surviving are her husband of 65 years Gene Coan, whom she married October 25, 1952; three children Wayne Coan of Busti, Diane Ostrom of Kennedy and Sherrie (Don) Tonkin of Jamestown; seven grandchildren Jennifer, Jason and Justin Ostrom and Jed, Jakob, Joshua and Jonah Tonkin; four great grandchildren Jayla and Jude Dhondt and Ty and Avery Ostrom and a brother Conrad (Myrna) Irish of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Baptist Church, Rev. Mark Hinman will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Centralia.
