Obituary of David R. Anderson
David R. Anderson, 85, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away Saturday June 2, 2018 at the Lutheran Home.
He was born June 30, 1932 in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Gilbert and Hazel Eckman Anderson.
Dave was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School, a 1955 graduate of Jamestown Community College, and he attended the University at Buffalo.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Sgt. with the 25th Infantry Division, as a Fire Control Specialist.
For 30 years, he worked at Weber Knapp Co where he was manager of Manufacturing Engineers, retiring in 1984 due to ill health.
Dave was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church singing in the choir and serving on several church committees; Vikings Lodge #65 IOV; AARP; and Willow Run Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Dave was a very active golfer.
Living with illness most of his life, Dave always had a positive outlook and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
He is survived by the love of his life for 65 years, his wife Nancy Black Anderson whom he married December 27, 1952 in the First Congregational United Church of Christ; four sons: Michael D. (Rebecca) Anderson of Jamestown; Thomas W. (Judy) Anderson of Russell, PA; Lt. Col. (Ret.) David L. (Valerie) Anderson of Knob Noster, MO; Todd R. (Nancy) Anderson of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Rosemary (Will) Austin, Troy (Courtney) Anderson, Cory Anderson, Morgan (Aaron) Skaith, Patrick Anderson, Hayden Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, and Joshua Anderson; and three great grandchildren: Owen Skaith, Adalyn Skaith, and Emily Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Durwood G. Anderson.
The family will receive friends from 2-4:00PM, and 7-9:00PM Friday June 29th at the Lind Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday June 30th at the Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery followed by lunch at the Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to Lakewood YMCA 183 E Fairmount, Lakewood, NY 14750; or the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Class of 1950 Scholarship Fund, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. Memorials may also be left at the funeral home.
