Obituary of John L. Peterson
John L. Peterson, 64, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday August 23, 2018 in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born October 12, 1953 in Jamestown the son of the late Gerald and Janice Carlson Peterson.
John was a 1973 graduate of Jamestown High School. In 37 years, he worked through the changes at Blackstone, Valeo and retired from Titan X in 2017. Earlier, he worked at Mayflower Trucking, Firch Baking, Carborundum, Jamestown Finishes, and Renold Inc. in Westfield.
He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, and was a member of the IAM Local 2105. John enjoyed planting his annual vegetable garden, occasional fishing adventures, being outdoors in general, cooking his original homemade specialties, and the company of his friends. Above all else, he treasured his family and his many extended families. He will be remembered as a genuine friend and true family man. He was deeply proud of his relationship with his children, who feel equally honored to call this incredible man 'Dad'.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Laurie De Pane Peterson; a daughter, Janice (Gene) Ploss of Buffalo; a son, John E. Peterson (Kara Mawhir) of Fredonia; the light of his life, his granddaughter Angela Jean Peterson Ploss of Buffalo; three brothers: Steven (Natalie) Peterson of Frewsburg; Jeffrey (Bette) Peterson of Falconer; David (Debbie) Peterson of Jamestown; two sisters: Diana Peterson and Lori (David) Bourquin both of Jamestown; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Betty Carlson and Hilding and Genevieve Peterson.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
