Obituary of Homer A. Meekins

Homer A. Meekins, 87, of 405 Stowe Street, died Tuesday, August 28, 2018, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

He was born June 12, 1931, in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Willard and Florence Johnson Meekins, Sr.

He was a 1949 graduate of Kensington High School.

A Korean War veteran, he served in the US Air Force from 1951-54.

Prior to his retirement in 1990 he was employed by Alltel for 41 years as a cable splicer.

He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Lakewood Memorial Post American Legion, Elks Lodge, Viking Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, War Vets Recreation, Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, Jamestown Consistory, Jamestown Shrine Club, Ismalia Temple of Buffalo and Jesters Court of Buffalo.

Surviving are three daughters: Wendy Walton of Niagara Falls, NY; Merrilee (David) Reemts of Omaha, NE; and Katherine Takas of Treasure Island, FL; two step children: Suzanne Buskist of Grand Junction, CO and William Buskist of Salida, CO; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, including grandsons, Justin Walton and James Takas, and Michael and Eric Rinaldo.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Patricia Short, whom he married October 22, 1974 and who died November 7, 2001, and a brother Willard Meekins, Jr.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Phelps will officiate.

Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home where a Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be led at 11 a.m.
