Obituary of Kathryn Nelson Kotsi
Kathryn Nelson Kotsi, 92, of 148 Pennsylvania Ave. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifelong area resident, she was born June 25, 1926 in Jamestown, NY, the eldest child of the late C. Edwin and Ruth Anderson Nelson.
She was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School, where she played the flute in the orchestra, sang in the Acapella Choir and excelled in mathematics.
Before her retirement, she was a longtime employee of the former Watson Manufacturing Company.
She was an active member of the Mozart Club and the Creche, Inc. where she had designed a pattern to make infant gowns. She was easily recognized by driving her big old blue Buick Roadmaster.
Kathryn was an independent person whose interests were many and varied. Her extensive collection of books was a source for her ongoing research of history, world cultures, art, and travel. She was also an avid reader of current affairs. One of her favorite past times was spending time outside taking care of her yard, her flower gardens and landscaping.
Kathryn was an enthusiastic traveler, adding to her knowledge and enjoyment of the world. In addition to many U.S. destinations, she had visited Europe, India, Nepal, and Japan. This began her long interest in Asian art and objects which decorated her home and her garden. Music and art were always a significant part of her life. The Cleveland Museum of Art was one of her favorite destinations. She preferred listening to symphonies and opera's and filled her house with music from her vast collection of records and cd's.
Surviving are her sister, Louise (David) Rhodes of Jamestown; her nephews, Thomas A. (Deborah) Nelson of Jamestown, Robert J. (Mary Kalski) Nelson of Randallstown, MD; her nieces, Mary (William) Bouck of Toledo, OH, Kathryn (James Henshaw) Nelson of Reading, England; and her sister-in-law, Maxine Nelson of Jamestown, as well as five great nieces.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers, John E. Nelson and Charles A. Nelson and a sister-in-law Dolores Nelson.
Kathryn's family would like the thank the staff of the Lutheran Home as well as Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care, comfort and support during her final days.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 West Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750 or to a musical organization of your choice.
