Obituary of Thomas William Harris

Thomas William Harris, 49, of 188 South Allegheny Ave., West Ellicott, died Oct. 1, at home. Tom grew up in Jamestown, where he was born on Oct. 16, 1968, to Paul W. Harris, Jr. and Susan Stewart Harris. He graduated in 1987 from Southwestern High School, where he quarterbacked the football team and also lettered in baseball. After attending Jamestown Community College, Tom worked for more than 30 years at the family business, H&H Metal Specialty, Inc., rising from a part-time employee to president of the company. Tom was a member of the Celoron American Legion. He was active in coaching youth baseball and soccer, and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching sports, boating and golfing. Tom is predeceased by his father, Paul W. Harris Jr. Tom is survived by two sons, Judson and Oscar Harris, of Lakewood; his mother, Susan Harris of West Ellicott; sister Stacey (Arthur) Harris Weinstein and niece and nephew Ashley and Tyler of Charlotte, N.C.; grandmother Phyllis Harris of Greenhurst; uncle Barry and aunt Anne Harris of Bemus Point; uncle Bruce and aunt Sue Harris of Ashville; and several cousins. A prayer service and time of sharing memories of Tom will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. 3rd St, Jamestown. The Rev. Luke Fodor will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in Tom's name to Southwestern High School sports boosters.
