Dear Charles
We feel a thousand times richer because you crossed the paths of our lives in so many different but loving ways, but, God knows, we shall miss you.
Life will not be the same without you. We won't forget your wit, your many, many talents, your thoughtfulness, your generosity. You left positive marks on this county that will never be matched. To describe all the different ways you served us would take a full biography.
You treated everyone with great respect. You were a man of high principle.
I know from experience that you played a mean game of tennis on
Henry Weiler's clay court in Lakewood and at the Lakewood YMCA but you were always fair, you were always the good sport, you were always the wit, win, lose or draw.
Now you have left for greener pastures. As the poet said in his eulogy on the loss of his son, "You are now like the wind; we cannot see you, but, we will always feel you."
Farewell Charles Pegan, until we meet again.
Joe

My most thoughtful regards to the family of Chuck. I, and I would dare say my dad, have been blessed to have known Chuck as his roommate these past couple of months. As I read Chuck’s story of life, I find myself in awe but hardly surprised by the list of his many interests, accolades, and contributions to his community. Among the many items I’ve read however, probably none surpass the fact that Chuck shares the Eagle Scout badge with my dad (and to a more modest extent, myself). Truly my dad, as a 1948 Eagle, a scoutmaster for over 50 years, and a founder of the scout troop that remains active 75 years later, he will find himself very much moved when I tell him of this previously unknown fraternal link! Please know that it has been my privilege to have seen and given a cheerful hello to Chuck nearly every day since September. I will always remember him!

One of my most cherished memories is a photo I have of Mr. Pegan bending down to hold my kindergarten graduation cap on top of my head because my bobby pins had fallen out! If I recall correctly, if fell off three times before that picture, and the last of them it rolled off the stage onto the floor! I'm glad he was kind enough to come down to my level so I could have such a beautiful memory. I am pleased to hear he had such a wonderful life. Please know my prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Condolences to the family. What a wonderful, caring man he was. In 1970 I first came to Fredonia as a Rotary exchange student. Mr Pegan was director of the 'Y Camp in the Woods', where my host sister, Barbara Lesch, was a counselor. He was kind enough to allow me to spend a week at camp with her. He was then a teacher at Fredonia and our class adviser. He was always such a good, kind and easy going man. In later years, when he was interim superintendent at Fredonia, our younger daughter received her HS diploma from him, which I thought was special. We have very fond memories.
The family and communities have lost a great man, we can be thankful for all he contributed.

I worked for Chuck at Panama in the early days of my career, and was fortunate to work with him again when he was the Interim at Westfield. I found him to be a good listener and a kind man. I know he will be missed by many. My heart goes out to his family.

Dear family,
I have so many wonderful memories of our times together!
Your dad was my teacher in high school and later my principal in Panama.
I remember so well fun times at the lake and all the fun we had when I babysat for you! I always thought of you as my other family.
I know how hard it is to lose both mom and dad. Stay close to each other. I pray you will feel God's arms wrapped around you, holding you close.
With love and prayers,
Karin

We were so blessed last year, and so many others, but your empty seat is difficult this year. The love is surrounding us as well as the memories, thank you for that Dad.

After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we’ve shared with our loved ones who have passed, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live on, through us.

I was saddened to read that my friend and colleague had passed away. He was a kind and gentle man. He was very instrumental in promoting me to my first administration job at Panama. He served as a great guide to me in the field of administration. While I may be out of town and unable to pay my respects in person please know I will be thinking of him. My sincere condolences to all the family. I will remember Chuck fondly.
