Obituary of James A. Hutchison

Jim "Hutch" Hutchison left this world on November 23, 2018 in his home after a long and brave battle with kidney cancer to be with his heavenly Father. He was born May 25, 1947 in Erie, PA. James was the son of the late Arnett C. Hutchison and Shirley Jones Hutchison Wager. James attended Wattsburg High School and graduated from Tech Memorial High School in Erie, PA. He served in the U.S. Army from September 1966 to August 1968 including a tour in Korea. Jim was a semi-truck driver for several companies including Schneider Transport, Flickingers, Sysco, Quality Markets and Bostwick-Braun Co. In 1990, Jim was the Jamestown Division Champion of the Scrivner National Roadeo which is a truck driving skills competition. As a result of his local victory he was flown to Dallas, TX to compete. He was associated with Panama Baptist Church. James was a lifelong hunter of deer and turkey. However he was a true conservationist doing what was best for the land by planting thousands of trees and yearly crops for the wildlife. Jim was fascinated with nature and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of nature and machinery with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed skeet and trap shooting and officiating as a referee at local, state, and national levels until he was 70 years old. Hutch was a life member of the Falconer Rod & Gun Club, Big Tree Sportsman Club, Busti Trap Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, and the NRA. He was a true sportsman. Jim had a deep love for his land and could be found on his tractor any day of the year. He was well known for being a jokester and his grandchildren loved him dearly for his fun spirit and great golf cart rides! Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout all 50 states with his wife, many in their RV. Jim loved helping out his neighbors and friends with projects. He was filled with great determination and loved a challenge. Jim could fix nearly any mechanical problem. He had a quirky sense of humor which his family also shared. An extremely important quality was his belief in keeping his word. His passing will leave a great hole in our world. We would like to give a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and Hospice staff for their help in the past and present care. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sally Cole Hutchison, whom he married in 1971 in Corry, PA. They renewed their vows on their 45th wedding anniversary in 2016 in Oahu, Hawaii. He is also survived by their three daughters Heather (Luke) Anderson Waygood; Nora (Michael) Ludwig; and Jaime (Craig) Damon, and grandchildren Baker and Willa Anderson, Amber (Thaddeus) Smith, Charity, Isaac, and Eliana Ludwig, Giovanna, Gabriella, and Grant Damon, Leoralee (Jesse) Sprague, Joshua (Alyssa) Waygood and three great-grandchildren Rozalie and Silas Smith and Delilah Waygood. His siblings include Harold Hutchison of Erie, PA, Betty Lachesky of Yucca Valley, CA, Janis Piazza of Erie, PA, Gail (Dick) Noonan of Erie, PA, Barbara Batten and Diana Rogers of Sparks, NV and Marge Weber of Lincoln, CA as well as many nephews and nieces.
