George was certainly an ambitious individual, he did what he felt he needed to do in business without thinking much about others. But let's not judge him but instead use his actions as a lesson as to how we might live our own lives.

I am so very sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Griffin. George was an amazing man. I first got to know him during the Country Capers at the Armory for WCA Hospital. And throughout my growing up, came to know him as a kind, fun and remarkable man. My condolences to the entire family. We all will miss George.

Dear Martha & Priscilla,
Barb and I have some wonderful memories of times spent with your Dad and Mom. We extend our warm condolences to you and your families.
Our friendship started with ski lessons at the stadium hill. Your Dad was best on the class and we often kidded about how much fun we had and how he and your mom got hooked.
Great Memories!

My Sympathy to you Pricilla and Martha and extended families. I know how close you all were. George certainly loved life and people. In spite of a few set backs and slow downs he kept going. He was a good neighbor. Always ready to help if needed. He was a kind and caring man, I am away but I am there in spirit with you all.

We wish to extend our sympathy to the Griffin family. George will certainly be missed by everyone. We often remember George on cold mornings at the Ellicottville Ski Club tuning and preparing his ski’s for the day and joining together with friends to get the first ski turns of the day . Lunch would soon follow with family which included a Molson or two. George was such a great family man and giving of his time to serve his community and cherish his many friendships in Western NY . Thank you George !

I’ve known George for the past 30 years while working at the YMCA, and will always cherish our friendship. I remember the days he played noon time basketball at the Jamestown YMCA, where he played well into his fifties. One magical day George, Tom Benson, Tom Buttafaro, and myself won 10 straight games.
George loved to run and even though he may not have been the fastest runner he certainly was the most accurate. For three straight years he won the battle of the businesses predicted mile race, where participants had to guess the time they would take to run a mile. Each year George would come in within a few seconds and win the event.
The past couple of years George would hang out at the Lakewood YMCA each day. It was great talking to him and hearing stories about his life. Each day he would ride an Expresso Interactive bike that was linked to participants all over the country. George became the number 1 ranked rider in the 85 and over age group.
He will be greatly missed. Tom Anderson

I remember George from the neighborhood when we were growing up and had some dealings with him at Gierston Tool. I didn't see him for decades but got back in touch with him over the last couple months as he would walk down the hill to have breakfast at my normal breakfast spot. I enjoyed his company and sense of humor. I lost my Mom a few months ago so I understand how the family must feel at this difficult time. I feel fortunate to have reconnected with him and enjoyed our brief friendship. RIP

I remember being at Holiday Valley, waiting in line at the Yodeler chairlift. I looked up and saw a skier coming down the hill that impressed me. He was such a good skier that I thought he was an instructor out of uniform. Since I have been teaching skiing since I was 16 years old, I was curious as to the identity of the person I was watching and admiring. I was amazed to discover that it was George Griffin!! When he got closer, I realized that he was more than twice my age!! I was awestruck!! I realized right then that I wanted to be just like him when I was his age!! He was, and still is, my hero!!

I remember George from when he owned Gierston Tool and called on Jamestown Perforators where I worked while attending college. He was always so friendly and funny. He brightened everyone's day, and I'm sure Heaven is a little brighter today. Christmas blessings to his family and friends.
