Obituary of Duane R. Carlson

Duane R. Carlson, Sr. 84, of 305 Niagara Ave.. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 4:12 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 26, 1934 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Arvid and Edna Johnson Carlson. Before his retirement he was employed by the former Dahlstrom Manufacturing Corporation, working as a spray technician for 40 years. Duane was a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church and was well known as an avid sportsman. He was a past member of the Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association and the Jamestown Area Old Timers Baseball Team. He loved playing church softball and basketball and enjoyed coaching young kids in Little League Baseball. He was also a manager and past president of the Jamestown Little League. He was also an avid bowler and loved representing Santa Clause during the Christmas season. Duane will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who was very loyal to his family and friends and always put the interest of others before his own. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, JoAnn M. Finn Carlson whom he married July 2, 1955, a daughter; Dianne Carlson-Shagla, a son; Duane R. Carlson, Jr. both of Jamestown, three grandchildren; Heather Carlson of Erie, PA, Rebecca Russo, Natalie Russo both of Jamestown, a great granddaughter; Madelynn Thorn and his brother in law; Walter (Donna) Finn of Westchester, PA. He was preceded in death by his father Arvid Carlson, his mother, Edna Johnson Krudys, two sons; Daryl R. Carlson who died April 28, 2009, Dustin Jay Carlson who died April 5, 2015, a daughter; Debbie Jo Seyler who died June 21, 2018 and a brother; Donald R. Carlson who died February 15, 2016. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Matthew Rowe, pastor of the Christ First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
